Mitzvah of the Month

If you’d like to suggest an organization for next year, or to participate, please contact Alissa Frankel at afrankel@templebetham.com.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER: COLLECTION FOR BACK TO BASICS
The Back to Basics Angel Program provides nearly 10,000 needy elementary school students with the basic necessities of NEW sneakers, socks, underwear, and a wrapped toy each year during the holiday season. Temple Beth Am will be collecting items for 100 children this year.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE: (1) Select a Wish Card(s) with a child’s name, age, and sizes on it from the display in the Temple Beth Am and The One School lobbies. (2) Wrap your gifts, place them all together in one gift bag, and tape the child’s name to the outside of your bag to show the child’s information. If you prefer to donate an Amazon or Walmart gift card, we will do the purchasing for you! (3) Drop your wrapped gifts off at the Temple by Tuesday, December 5.

OCTOBER: PEGGY ADAMS ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE
Give a shelter animal the gift of comfort! Donate your gently used and clean blankets, sheets, towels, and washcloths to be used as bedding at the shelter. You can also bring old t-shirts for our youth to turn into dog tug toys. Please drop off your  donations to Temple Beth Am by October 27.

SEPTEMBER: THE CRAYON INITIATIVE
The Crayon Initiative brings happiness to children who are facing the stress of hospitalization by giving them the freedom that comes with creative play. The recycled crayons are distributed to children’s hospitals in all 50 states to brighten the lives of young patients during their stay. You can collect your leftover crayons in your own box or pick up a collection box from Temple Beth Am starting in August. Please drop off your crayons at the Temple office by September 29. AUGUST: SCHOOL SUPPLIES
The Jewish Volunteer Center ]is proud to partner once again with the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County to ensure students in Palm Beach County Title 1 schools have the tools they need when they go back to school. You can help us achieve our goal of donating school supplies so that these future leaders can return to school in the fall—prepared and with dignity. Order from Red Apple’s Amazon Wish List and supplies will be sent directly to its warehouse.

JUNE-JULY: LOCAL BEACH CLEANUP
Headed to our beautiful beaches this summer? You can grab a bucket (located at beach entrance crossovers), and help pick up marine-bound debris, all while enjoying your day at the beach. Beach Bucket Foundation offers Box O’ Buckets® cleanup stations to counties and municipalities for the purpose of creating awareness about the marine pollution on our beaches and in our oceans and to encourage local communities to help in keeping them clean. MAY: FOSTER LOVE (formerly Together We Rise)
For the past decade, Foster Love has created magical moments for thousands of siblings during the Disney Days reunification event. Currently, 70% of children in foster care are in placements separate from their siblings. Foster Love started Disney Days because they believe that siblings in foster care belong together. Gift a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and reunite siblings this summer at Walt Disney World. Click HERE to make a financial donation online.

Gleaning is a program of CROS Ministries, in partnership with the Palm Beach County Food Bank and other food distribution agencies that allows produce that is below market grade, but equally nutritious, to be harvested and distributed to the food insecure of Palm Beach and Martin Counties instead of being plowed back into the soil. Our annual gleaning trip will be in Delray Beach (exact location given upon registration). Please contact Alissa at afrankel@templebetham.com to register.

MARCH: ONE BLOOD

The Big Red Bus will be stationed in our parking lot on March 5. All donors receive a $20 e-gift card, a t-shirt, and a wellness checkup. Please consider donating blood and giving someone the gift of life.
